This original illustration on 90 lb. acid-free Strathmore mixed media paper and measuring 8" wide by 12" tall was inspired by a 2019 Inktober prompt of snow angel. I really enjoy October as it provides a wonderful array of prompts that can be interpreted in so many ways. A large part of how I choose to depict these prompts is wordplay and finding a non-cliche idea.
For this illustration, I used my love of funerary statues. I am drawn to the calm, peaceful faces of the angels. To then add snow made me think about stepping outside in the morning after snow has fallen the night before and everything is quiet and still as if the world is sleeping under a blanket of white. In her arms, she holds daisies for hope and innocence, roses that could mean several different things depending on color such as red for "I love you" or crimson for mourning. Lastly, hyacinth which also has various meanings- constancy, sorrow, and loveliness- prayers for someone.
